(According to Travel + magazine, June 2025) “Building a unique brand image is a significant challenge. We always put our heart and soul into each of our products to create a lasting impression on travelers. While adhering to certain criteria, we always know how to differentiate each hotel based on its geographical location, cultural identity, business model, and customer segment.” This is a statement from Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, General Director of Viet Orient Hospitality, regarding hotel management and operations in Vietnam..

If you want to go far, go together; if you want to develop, you need the support of talented people

    ● Hotel management is no longer a new field in Vietnam, but achieving success is not easy. What were your reasons for choosing to pursue this path?

The hotel management sector in Vietnam is still relatively new, and few businesses have been able to break through. Domestic investors mainly hire foreign hotel management brands. Large corporations open their own management companies, but these are only for managing their own hotels. However, no Vietnamese hotel management company has yet stood out and established a brand in hotel management and operation in the market.

That is why Viet Orient Hotel Management and Setup Consulting Co., Ltd. (VOH) was established, with the desire to affirm the position of Vietnamese people in terms of expertise and hotel management.

My ambition is to build VOH into a leading, reputable, and professional hotel consulting and operation company in Vietnam. I believe that by creating connections among talented Vietnamese people, we can affirm our position and capabilities in this field.

    ● Can you explain why investors need to hire hotel consulting, setup, and management services?

When investors have a basic understanding of hotel consulting, setup, and management, they can determine the positive and negative aspects of leasing or not leasing, the cost involved, and the gains and losses to weigh on the scales. In business, the interests of all parties involved are paramount.

During my interactions with hotel owners, I've noticed that investors often rely solely on theoretical analysis, personal feelings, and opinions from friends and colleagues, lacking professional research and real-world data. However, hotel services and functions, like other goods, can fail without thorough and professional market research because they don't meet customer needs.

In the projects we've approached, many have finalized their designs and are currently under construction, including foundation work and finishing touches. At this point, investors only then consider hiring professionals to set up and manage the hotel, but they forget that technical and functional consulting in hotel construction is also extremely important to ensure efficient hotel operation and business. If investors had collaborated with a hotel consulting, setup, and management firm from the beginning, they would have minimized risks and maximized benefits along with sustainable development.

    ● What are the unique characteristics of the hotel management profession, sir?

A unique characteristic of hotel management is the need to accomplish many tasks simultaneously while maintaining a harmonious balance of interests among three parties: the owner, the staff, and the customers. This is the crux of the job and also a complex relationship. This profession is very difficult, requiring managers to have a holistic perspective. When establishing my business, I needed the support of eight different specialized departments. Although I have worked in many departments to understand the specifics of the industry, I always need experts in each field. To go far, we need to go together; to grow, we need skilled people to support us.

As a hotel manager, your task is to persuade the owner to provide reasonable benefits for the staff. When the owner motivates the staff, they are also retaining their customers. Therefore, the manager must know how to balance the interests of all three parties in this relationship. This is the biggest challenge for a hotel manager, but it's also an opportunity to demonstrate your competence and importance to the hotel.

DEVELOPING GREEN HOTELS IS THE “KEY” TO ENSURING SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

    ● How do you assess Vietnam's potential and advantages in the green hotel business?

Vietnam possesses significant potential and advantages for developing green hotels. Green hotels operate by minimizing environmental impact, protecting biodiversity, utilizing renewable energy, promoting natural and cultural heritage, developing environmentally friendly products, and actively engaging the local community. Developing green hotels is an essential path towards sustainable tourism, especially coastal tourism. The green hotel model is a future trend adopted by many countries and territories worldwide. This model demonstrates social responsibility and environmental protection while also bringing numerous business benefits and improving the quality of life for local people.

In recent years, the shift in awareness, behavior, and preferences of tourists towards sustainable development has become increasingly evident, practiced, and expected to be a key factor and criterion in hotel construction, business, and operation. Following this trend, businesses in the accommodation sector in Vietnam have gradually updated and kept pace with sustainable development trends through various appropriate models and strategies to keep up with global trends.

    ● Responsible tourism is gradually becoming an important criterion in tourists' destination choices. In your opinion, has the current state of development in Vietnam basically met this need of tourists?

Tourists are increasingly demanding destinations that preserve beautiful scenery, and are particularly interested in sustainable factors such as the use of renewable energy, protection of the natural environment and local communities. Awareness of sustainable development and environmental responsibility is becoming an important criterion in their destination selection decisions. Eco-resorts, lakeside villas, resorts associated with heritage preservation, and those creating a peaceful and tranquil environment are becoming popular and preferred choices.

The green tourism industry is raising awareness and emphasizing the importance of nature and local communities. From the very beginning of management, the guiding principle has been to strive for the best possible results while minimizing the impact on the environment.

    ● Could you share about the implementation of the "greening" criteria at the resorts managed by Viet Orient Hospitality?

To maintain sustainability, the resorts managed by Viet Orient Hospitality have implemented a series of environmental protection measures, down to the smallest details in their operational systems. All toothbrushes, combs, packaging, straws, shampoo and shower gel bottles, etc., are made from biodegradable materials, completely replacing single-use plastic products. Besides using eco-friendly materials, the resorts also invest heavily in waste treatment systems to ensure no impact on the natural landscape.

Organic waste is utilized as bio-fertilizer, serving the green spaces within the resort. Plastic waste is strictly sorted and sent to recycling facilities. In particular, domestic wastewater is treated using biological filtration technology, allowing for reuse in irrigation and maintaining the moisture level of the ecosystem within the resort grounds.

During expansion, the resort minimizes tree felling, instead utilizing the natural terrain to design structures that harmonize with the existing landscape. Building materials such as renewable acacia wood, bamboo, and rattan are prioritized due to their rapid regeneration capabilities, preventing the depletion of long-term forest resources. For trees with large trunks within the planned area, the resort avoids felling them, designing structures that "follow nature," preserving natural shade while creating unique architectural highlights.

    ● What strategies will Viet Orient Hospitality implement to contribute to building and promoting a green tourism and hotel brand in Vietnam?

Operating under the motto "Customer satisfaction is VOH's success," Viet Orient Hospitality Consulting and Hotel Management Company Limited constantly strives to provide the best possible products and services to its customers, contributing to the development and promotion of Vietnamese brands in the tourism and hotel industry. To best meet the increasingly demanding requirements of its customers, VOH will continue to focus on standardizing its business model, training its personnel to international standards, and enhancing professionalism. This is the foundation for affirming VOH's strength and strong progress, as well as its influence nationwide. VOH is always striving to elevate its services. With a visionary and strategic investment, and a focus on expanding internationally in the mineral business, VOH aims to develop a leading Vietnamese brand in hotel consulting and management, both domestically and globally.
